Movember mid-month update

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

I want to shave it off!

But I’m not going to. How I ever managed to live three years in my mid-20’s with a moustache I’ll never know.

Around out office, there are several quite well progressed moustaches (and a couple of struggler’s) and one guy is actually going to keep his.

I have been fascinated by the converstions the Movember campaign has initiated. Almost everywhere I go people are talking about it. It’s nive to hear mens health issues being discussed as openly as they are right now. Depression and Prostate Cancer are serious - two friends have been done the Prostate Cancer scare route, Chris Bloor who fortunately didn’t have it and John Moore who recently had Prostate surgery. Funny, he had been prodding my brother in law Tony Timmins to have a Prostate examination so Tony said, “I will if you will”. Tony was clear; John wasn’t.

We constantly reminded about womens health issues - breast and cervical cancers - drink bottles come with pink caps to remind us, but mens issues?

It’s not about my Mo, it’s about your health, guys. Depression is only talked about in hushed circles and I could talk for hours about how it effects everything you do as well as who you are. Please support this cause and donate a few bucks… here’s how to do it:

  1. Click this link https://www.movember.com/au/donate/donate-details.php?action=sponsorlink&rego=1719826&country=au and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account, or
  2. Write a cheque payable to ‘Movember Foundation’, referencing my Registration Number 1719826 and mailing it to:

Movember Foundation
PO Box 292
Prahran VIC 3181

Remember, all donations over $2 are tax deductible.

I’ll post a photo on December 1 before it comes off that night so you can see what it looks like after 31 days.

(I’m very aware that it makes me look like Ned Flanders so no Okely Dokely jokes, OK)

Word of Mouth Marketing - another cheap source of leads

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

I’m a huge believer in spreading your lead sources as wide as possible while keeping them affordable.

Using sponsored links on search engines is a widely used method of generating low-cost leads, as is networking. I’ve been involved in networking groups for years and thoroughly recommend networking as a great source of business. The trap is that too may people look for business from the other group members rather than looking beyond to the people they know.

For many small business owners and salespeople, their anxiety to make a sale comes across and has a negative effect on their purpose and reputation.

As with everything in marketing, there is always a better way, and working a room and gaining word of mouth promotion and referrals is a learnable skill.

My mate Martin Russell has a great book on the topic and I’d recommend it to you as a valuable tool in developing this skill.

Find out about Martin’s book, and why well-known marketers like Jay Abraham and Robert Allen regard Word of Mouth as a vital cog in your marketing arsenal here. The book’s content is excellent and Martin is one of the best networkers I know.

James.

Movember update

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

So I’m now 5 days into Movember and the evidence is showing. My sponsors so far have all been supportive but very negative about me actually keeping the mo! Every one of them is actually sponsoring me to shave it off on December 1… so on Monday December 1, I’ll be at the office for the final photos then that night it’s home and off it comes.

There are several Acorn Group staffers growing mos right now; my bet on the winner is Nolan; his Zappata is already impressive. The team is called simpMO (not my idea) and if you don’t know about simPRO, you can find out more about it’s capability at www.simPRO.com.au

If you’ve not yet subscribed to our newsletter (see box on left of our main site), please do so because we’re planning a huge offer that will be in your inbox very soon…
